The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has produced some underwhelming displays this season.
The winner of the PFA young player of the year award twice in a row, there is little doubt about the quality that Dele Alli possesses, but there is also little doubt that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is in very bad form at present.
Alli has cut a frustrated figure in recent months, with the England international often unable to make much of an impact in games.
The 21-year-old is still trying to cause problems for opponents with neat passes and weaving runs, but he has ended up causing more problems for Tottenham, whose midfield clearly lacks balance.
Alli was again disappointing as Tottenham were beaten by Manchester City last weekend and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now in seventh place in the Premier League, with the battle just to secure a place in the top four set to be very intense indeed.
Pochettino has a difficult decision to make regarding Alli going into this weekend’s game away to Burnley.
Against a side that is so well drilled defensively, Alli could well face even more frustration, which would lead to further focus on his disappointing form.
Perhaps the best option for Pochettino is to leave Alli out of the starting lineup for a few games to give the midfielder time to assess his situation and work out what he needs to do differently.
Alli could then return to the side refreshed and ready to make a major impact in the second half of the season, and he certainly has the quality to do just that.
