Allegedly keen on Rangers job, Ange Postecoglou recently clarified his future – and could be free next week

Ange Postecoglou is reportedly interested in manager Rangers.

According to ESPN, Australia boss Ange Postecoglou has his eyes on the Rangers job – and he may well become available later this month.

The Gers sacked manager Pedro Caixinha last month after a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock, ending the Portuguese’s seven-month stay in the Ibrox hot seat.

Whilst Graeme Murty has got off to a strong start as caretaker manager with a 3-1 win over Hearts and a 3-0 defeat of Partick Thistle, Rangers may still consider external applicants for the job.

It now seems that Australia boss Ange Postecoglou is one interested manager, as ESPN report that he has his eyes on a move to Ibrox as he allegedly prepares to leave his job as Socceroos manager.

Postecoglou has won over 44% of his games in charge of Australia since taking the job in 2013, leading the Socceroos to the 2014 World Cup – but after stumbling through a World Cup qualifier against Syria, Postecoglou must now beat Honduras over two legs to book a place at the 2018 World Cup.

Last month, under-fire Postecoglou was quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald as saying that he will be leaving his job whenever Australia’s World Cup campaign ends, which could be as soon as November 15^th, or as late as July 15^th, 2018.

“My contract ends whenever the World Cup journey ends,” said Postecoglou. “If we don’t get over Honduras, then my tenure ends, right. That’s the reality, so everything else is conjecture.”

“If people are really worried about my future, they should be worried about these two games, but they’re not, they just want an answer to a question, and I’m not going to give them it,” he added.

It remains to be seen whether Rangers have any interest in Postecoglou, but the 52-year-old would bring a win rate of more than 50% over the course of his career if he did land the Ibrox job.

Potentially available for nothing in a week, Rangers may just hang on to see what the future holds for Postecoglou – but if Australia qualify for the World Cup, then the most likely course of action is that Rangers pursue other avenues, despite his alleged interest.
