Everton are reportedly keen on Sporting striker Bas Dost.
Everton have yet to get going in the transfer market this summer, but with a director of football and a manager now in place, the Toffees may get down to business soon.
Marcel Brands and Marco Silva have arrived at Goodison Park, and the club will now be looking to head into the transfer market to boost their squad after a disappointing campaign.
A host of players will be wanted, and Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reported last week that Everton are one of the clubs interested in signing Sporting striker Bas Dost.
That story has now been given another interesting layer, as Portuguese newspaper Record tonight report that Dost has become the latest Sporting star to terminate his contract after an attack from the club’s fans, joining Rui Patricio, William Carvalho, Bruno Fernandes, Daniel Podence and Gelson Martins.
Dost may now become a free agent, and his phenomenal goalscoring record in recent years should not only grab Everton’s attention, but also excite Toffees fans.
Dost, 29, joined Sporting from Wolfsburg back in the summer of 2016, and has been nothing short of a goal machine in Portugal, smashing 70 goals in 90 games over the last two years.
The Dutch target man may have blown hot and cold with Wolfsburg, but his record in Portugal suggests that he could bring more goals to the Everton side along with January signing Cenk Tosun.
If Dost’s termination comes through, he is bound to be in demand on a free transfer, but Everton and compatriot Brands should be near the front of the queue – and his goalscoring feats should make him exciting for Everton supporters, even at 29.
