Could Tottenham Hotspur make a move for the French international?

Marseille midfielder Lassana Diarra has been speaking to French television station Telefoot – with his comments later published online by newspaper L’Equipe.

The 31-year-old has recently been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur by the same newspaper, with claims he could be available on a free transfer despite having three years left on his current deal due to a clause in his contract.

There is no doubt Tottenham will be seeking to strengthen in the summer in preparation for a Champions League campaign and another title challenge, and for nothing more than a signing-on fee Diarra would be a canny addition given his previous experience of the English top flight.

Now the player himself has been talking about this season and the rumours linking him with an early exit.

“Yes, this is the hardest season of my career,” Diarra is quoted as saying. “I was expecting a lot by coming to Marseille.”

Instead the side are struggling in Ligue 1 and Diarra has found himself linked with a move away.

So what does he make of those rumours?

“It proves that the job pays but I am still at Marseille and there is a final to play,” he added, proving that his mind is on the job in hand rather than any potential return to England.

Tottenham have some wonderful midfielders at their disposal right now but Diarra would be a savvy addition if chairman Daniel Levy does not have to part with any cash to get his man.
