The midfielder has been linked with a summer switch to Liverpool.
Alleged Liverpool target Mahmoud Dahoud has been speaking to German magazine Kicker about the prospect of leaving his current club Borussia Monchengladbach this summer, and it is not good news for those Reds fans hoping to see him at Anfield next season.
The 20-year-old midfielder made 41 appearances for Monchengladbach last season, scoring five goals and providing nine assists in the process, and according to a report from the Daily Mail he is attracting interest from Liverpool.
However, while Reds manager Jurgen Klopp will know the player well from his time in the Bundesliga, it seems he will have to wait a while longer before bringing him to England.
Speaking to Kicker, Dahoud said, “Who says I should leave Gladbach? I still have room for improvement.
“My finishing has to improve. I have to get stronger in the air and I can still improve physically to get stronger on the pitch.”
It is refreshing to hear a young footballer speaking about the areas they need to improve and not moving on too soon, but with a contract that expires in the summer of 2018, his current club will know that if they lose him next season it will be for considerably less money.
That could play into Liverpool’s hands, but only time will tell if Klopp really sees the youngster as a future Reds star.
