Kevin Campbell says Sam Allardyce is ‘100 per cent not the right man’ to take Everton forward, after Allardyce likened his job to managing Newcastle United and West Ham United.
Allardyce is under-fire just three months into his Everton tenure, despite having moved the Toffees clear of relegation danger.
Many Evertonians believe their side should have higher aspirations than simply surviving, however, especially after spending close to £200 million on players this season.
But, speaking at a press conference on Friday, Allardyce said expectations at Everton are no greater than at Newcastle or West Ham – another two clubs at which the former England manager was not universally popular.
And for Campbell – who spent six years at Everton as a player – his comments appear to have proved the final straw.
“If that’s what he thinks he’s 100% not the right man to take the club forward,” tweeted the 48-year-old, who told Talksport earlier this week that he anticipates a change of manager at Everton this summer.
When asked who should replace Allardyce if he is given the boot, Campbell replied: “To be honest Silva for me yet Howe, Fonseca or Dyche could do the job too! The board have to make a huge decision and stick with it and back the new manager!”
Throughout their history, Everton have won a total of 24 competitive trophies, which is more than Newcastle [14] and West Ham [six] combined.
