West Bromwich Albion want to sign Everton striker Cenk Tosun said agent Mesrun Izzet, who claimed to have held talks with Baggies boss Sam Allardyce this week while in conversation with Fanatik.
With just over a week left in a rather uneventful January transfer window, West Brom are facing a race against time as they look to bring a new number nine to The Hawthorns.
Mbaye Diagne, Josh King, Kasper Junker, Andy Carroll and more have been linked. But it seems that Allardyce’s number one target is a £27 million Turkey international he brought to English football three years ago.
Allardyce was in charge of Everton when Tosun arrived at Goodison Park, describing the former Besiktas talisman as ‘the best in Europe’ in his price-bracket.
Those comments have not aged particularly well, of course, with Tosun struggling for games and goals on the blue half of Merseyside.
But it seems Allardyce is still a big fan of a man who fired Besiktas to Super Lig glory in 2016 and 2017.
“I met with Sam Allardyce, the manager of West Brom, four days ago. His first choice is Cenk Tosun, since he is his former player,” Izzet explained.
“Moreover, (Tosun) would not have any adaptation problems to England because he has been there for a long time.”
Everton would surely jump at the chance to get the £60,000-a-week bench-warmer off their crippling wage bill but, with West Brom only able to discuss short-term loan deals, it remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached.
