Sam Allardyce suggested on talkSPORT (9:40am, July 31, 2020) that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley needs to make it clear if he plans to sell the club now.

The former Newcastle manager made the suggestion while discussing the current situation of the Magpies.

As reported by The Times, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) have decided to withdraw their proposal to buy Newcastle after the Premier League failed to make a decision after so many weeks.

However, The Times have claimed that there is another businessman in the frame to buy the Magpies from current owner Ashley.

“One bidder Stateside (not Henry Mauriss) was in contact with Ashley before the Saudis came in, has watched the stalemate, and is currently weighing up renewed interest in Newcastle or buying another club, a far cheaper option and currently for sale,” states the report in The Times. “Their desire is Newcastle.”

Allardyce believes that if Ashley wants to sell Newcastle to this reported new prospective bidder, then he should make it clear to everyone related to the club.

Allardyce said on talkSPORT (9:40am, July 31, 2020): “If Mike has made his mind up to sell now, he will pursue that as quickly as he possibly can if it’s there.

“But if it’s not, I think it needs to be made clear as soon as possible for the sake of the fans, Steve and the players.”

What now for Newcastle United?

One suspects that Newcastle fans are disappointed with the current situation, as they will have been looking forward to the takeover.

It now remains to be seen what happens. If Ashley is determined to sell Newcastle, then he will probably be open to new bidders and new proposals.
