Everton manager Sam Allardyce has told the club’s official Twitter account that he thinks playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson will be disappointed at failing to score against Newcastle United.

The Toffees travelled to Tyneside on Wednesday night in search of another positive result, having picked up a 1-1 draw at Merseyside rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

With Newcastle in dire form, Everton travelled to St. James’ Park with real belief that they could get a win – and that’s exactly what they picked up.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s first half cross was headed goalwards by Aaron Lennon, but Karl Darlow only managed to fumble the ball, with Wayne Rooney sliding into convert on the goalline.

Everton managed to hold out and claim a 1-0 win, with Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shhelvey receiving a red card late on, and new manager Allardyce will be delighted with another clean sheet.

In truth, it could have been more for Everton, with Gylfi Sigurdsson going close to a second, and after the game, Allardyce analysed the Iceland star’s performance.

Allardyce believes that the playmaker – signed by former boss Ronald Koeman in a club-record deal over the summer – will be disappointed that he didn’t score his third league goal for the Toffees.

Allardyce, speaking to the club’s official Twitter account, admitted that he’s glad Sigurdsson will be disappointed though, as he’s getting back into goalscoring areas again after a slow start to life with the club.

“I think Gylfi would be a little disappointed that he didn’t score tonight, which is good news,” said Allardyce. “He’s getting in those areas, and we all know how good he is at scoring normally, particularly with the goal against Huddersfield,” he added.
