Sam Allardyce told talkSPORT (01/07/21 at 7:35 am) that he is ‘certain’ Bill Kenwright is against Everton appointing former Liverpool boss, Rafa Benitez, as their new manager.

The former Premier League manager was told by Alan Brazil that Everton’s old board are ‘not having’ the decision to bring Benitez in as manager given his connections with Liverpool.

In truth, the new faces in Everton’s boardroom should have expected this and should continue to expect this during Benitez’s reign at Goodison Park.

And this is either going to be a genius move or an utter disaster.

This is what Radio host and former Scotland striker, Brazil, and ex-Everton boss, Allardyce, had to say about the Benitez appointment.

“I keeping hearing, Sam, I don’t know if you have heard the same rumours that this had split the board,” said Brazil. “The new board and the old board.

“The old board are not having it and not happy at all. But the new guys are coming in and they are the ones with the dough.”

Allardyce responded: “Well, you know Bill Kenwright as well as I do and I don’t think Bill would have been for an appointment like this. I think that’s absolutely certain.

“But obviously Farhad, who appointed me, has put all the money into Everton up to now. That brings a new pressure on it and on the manager.”

If Benitez doesn’t get off to a fast start then you do worry what the reaction will be like from the Everton supporters.

The Toffees aren’t exactly flying high after securing a tenth-placed finish last season.

Added with that, the man he replaced, left in an unexpected fashion because Real Madrid came knocking, not because the Everton fans wanted him out.

Either way, there is sure to be some serious entertainment on Merseyside next season, because if this goes well then it will be a hard watch for those in Liverpool colours.

And if it doesn’t go well then expect fireworks from those in Everton colours.
