Newcastle United have secured their big takeover – and that means Liverpool’s hopes of landing Allan Saint-Maximin may already be over.
Liverpool’s interest in Saint-Maximin
Calciomercato reported in September that Liverpool are interested in signing Saint-Maximin.
With Sadio Mane approaching his 30’s, Liverpool are being linked with left wingers. Villarreal’s Arnaut Danjuma was one, with Saint-Maximin another.
Both are quick, tricky and love to cut in from the left flank. You can understand why Liverpool fancy them to replace Mane down the line.
Everton and Chelsea were also named as being keen on Saint-Maximin, meaning Liverpool faced competition.
Surely no way Newcastle would sell Saint-Maximin to Liverpool now
Liverpool face more than a battle for Saint-Maximin now. In fact, it looks almost impossible to get him away from St James’ Park.
Newcastle were finally taken over on Thursday, with a Saudi-led consortium securing the club after a lengthy pursuit.

Big money is now expected to be pumped in at Newcastle, with huge signings and major names expected to arrive.
This takeover also means Newcastle will be under no pressure to sell key players – including Saint-Maximin.
Liverpool can throw money at Newcastle if they want, but with PIF’s investment, they just don’t need it.
Add in that Newcastle can now show Saint-Maximin an exciting project, and the French winger may not need to leave St James’ Park to achieve great things.
Signings are of course wanted, but instantly keeping Saint-Maximin with this takeover is a big win in itself.
