Newcastle United’s survival hopes have been given a major boost after beating Burnley 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Magpies fell behind at Turf Moor as Matej Vydra swept home a Chris Wood cutback, and it looked like they would slip to defeat.

However, the second half introduction of Allan Saint-Maximin changed the game, first setting up Jacob Murphy for a leveller.

Saint-Maximin then fired home a superb solo goal to give Newcastle all three points, with the French winger making a stunning impact.

Saint-Maximin was making just his second appearance since the end of February, but he did his damage in just 33 minutes on the pitch.

Newcastle aren’t safe yet, but they have created a cushion between themselves and Fulham, with real hope that the return of Saint-Maximin will help secure safety.

Whilst many were raving about Saint-Maximin, the winger decided to reply to a tweet sent to him before the game kicked off.

One Everton fan told Saint-Maximin that he is an overrated player who wouldn’t even be on the bench at Goodison Park, but he was quickly shown up.

Saint-Maximin mocked the comments, clearly feeling in a great mood after turning the game on its head for Newcastle.
