The Rangers number one has dented McCrorie’s hopes of an immediate breakthrough under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.

The Rangers goalkeeper, Allan McGregor, has told the club’s TV channel he thinks one of his understudies wants to leave Ibrox.
McGregor has established himself as Steven Gerrard’s undisputed number one since his summer return to Rangers from Hull.
In doing so, he has budged Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick down the Ibrox pecking order – so much so the latter was loaned to Scunthorpe United in the previous transfer window – and dented Robby McCrorie’s hopes of an immediate first-team breakthrough.
But discussing the youngster’s talents earlier, McGregor said: “I’ve been very impressed with Robby.

“I obviously worked with him years ago, but I think he was only 14 or 15 at the time.
“I speak to him all the time and I think he wants to go and play. I know he went out last season and he has to go out and play on loan again.
“It definitely helped my career and I’m sure it will help his.”
It remains to be seen whether Rangers would sanction a loan for McCrorie this month, especially amid reports another Gers goalkeeper, Aidan McAdams, could make a temporary switch to Annan Athletic.

That said, Alnwick’s Scunthorpe spell is due to end after the weekend, and the 25-year-old could always be recalled in place of McCrorie.
