Leeds United fans have offered their thoughts on Twitter after John Egan was sent off during Sheffield United’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

That decision is significant for Leeds because they take on their Yorkshire rivals at the weekend.

It was a controversial decision to send Egan off, with the on-field referee judging that the centre-back denied Villa a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Watkins was played through on goal when a ball was played over the top and it resulted in both players being involved in a foot race, with the striker clearly winning that duel.

Egan then opted to pull Watkins back a number of times before the referee branded the United man a straight red.

A section of Leeds fans were backing Egan and they felt that he shouldn’t have seen a straight red.

It will be interesting to see if Chris Wilder appeals the decision because Egan is a key player for him and it could have a significant bearing on the weekend game.

Sheffield United have lost their opening two matches, whilst Leeds picked up their first three points of the season when they beat Fulham last time out.
