Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters have wished Harry Winks ‘all the best’ after he left Tottenham Hotspur for Italian side Sampdoria on a season-long loan deal, as the duo posted on Instagram.

Even though Antonio Conte has transformed Spurs since he replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout, including improving a number of individual players, someone like Winks just hasn’t been able to get going.

This isn’t a Conte thing, but the 26-year-old’s struggles in recent years, where he has gone from regular on the domestic stage, England international and now well out of those pictures.

It also doesn’t help Winks’ cause that Conte is only playing a two-man midfield and those players are hard-hitting defensive-minded players.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are the two main guys in the middle of the park, whilst Yves Bissouma earned his first start during his side’s 1-1 draw at West Ham United on Wednesday night.

Nonetheless, when Winks expressed his delight at moving to Sampdoria, two of his former teammates sent him messages in the comments section.

Newcastle United defender Trippier wished him ‘good luck’, whilst Walker-Peters added ‘all the best’.

A REFRESH FOR WINKS

This is needed for Winks and it will be interesting to see where he can take his career in Italy, where a number of English players are thriving.

Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori are two of those players, with the latter winning the Serie A title with AC Milan last season.

And a certain Jose Mourinho winning the Europa Conference League, alongside Abraham, with Roma, who are now sitting at top of the Serie A table.

Yes, Winks hasn’t joined the powerhouses of Italian football, but this is a move that can help revive his stuttering career.
