Andros Townsend lauded Tottenham Hotspur flop, Georges-Kévin N’koudou, at the Qatar World Cup by claiming he has ‘all the ability in the world’.
Cameroon kept their hopes of remaining in Qatar alive with a 3-3 draw against Serbia on Monday and Townsend liked what he saw from N’Koudou’s substitute appearance.
Blink and you might have missed it, but N’Koudou, who is now playing for Turkish side Besiktas, did don Tottenham colours once upon a time.
Then-manager Mauricio Pochettino was in the dugout when Spurs signed the highly-rated winger for £11 million from Marseille in 2016 (Guardian) – he would go on to score just one goal for the club and struggle for a very good Pochettino side.
But a moment of magic from the 27-year-old during Cameroon’s action-packed draw yesterday caught Townsend’s eye, with the Everton man doing commentary duty for ITV Sport.
“That’s what that man N’Koudou can bring,” said Townsend. “He is so unpredictable. But he has all the ability in the world to create a chance out of nothing.
“It was just a hopeless ball into him. He brought it down very well and he got his side a free-kick.”
N’KOUDOU’S TIME AT TOTTENHAM
When the France-born winger first joined Spurs, he came in as a back-up and to bulk up what was a very strong XI.
From Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Dele Alli, those in north London were accustomed to watching some serious attacking talent.
Whilst Antonio Conte has the club in the Champions League now, there are many still praying that the good old days of flair and entertaining football returns.
