Speaking in a promotional video for Expedia, Virgil van Dijk has been waxing-lyrical about Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.
The two centre-backs were playing a game where they had to rate each other out of five on a number of different things ranging from banter to cooking ability.
The final category they had to rate each other on was footballing ability, and van Dijk was certain that the 23-year-old deserved the highest possible score.
“I’ve mentioned it before, he’s the best young English centre-back at the moment, so all praise to him,” van Dijk said.
Is Gomez the best young English centre-half at the moment?
Well, it’s hard to argue that anyone else even comes close to him.
He’s a Premier League winner and a Champions League winner and while the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Ben Godfrey are talented young players in that position, they don’t come close to Gomez.
Of course, sadly we haven’t seen much of either Gomez or van Dijk this season after they picked up serious injuries towards the end of 2020, but we can only hope that they’re back fit and firing sooner rather than later.
