Paul Merson is anticipating a difficult 90 minutes for Joe Gomez in Liverpool’s visit of Manchester City on Sunday.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold a doubt, Gomez could continue at right-back when Pep Guardiola and Erling Haaland come to town this weekend.
This isn’t Gomez’s most-commonly used position and the 25-year-old struggled again in a 7-1 victory over Rangers in the Champions League in midweek.
Even away to Arsenal last weekend, the former Charlton powerhouse, who replaced Alexander-Arnold at the break, didn’t have a stellar second 45 minutes.

And Merson believes that the Liverpool man could be targeted by the likes of Jack Grealish and Phil Foden at Anfield.
He told Sportskeeda: “Joe Gomez was all over the place at full-back against Arsenal as well, and can’t see anything but a struggle against Foden and Grealish this weekend.”
The problem for Liverpool is that even if Alexander-Arnold is passed fit, his confidence is so low that he probably isn’t that much of a better option.
There’s no doubting the England international as an attacking full-back, in which he’s perhaps the best in Europe.
But defensively, he can be a liability and the display at Arsenal last week reminded as much, even if he was carrying a knock.
Whether it’s him or Gomez, City could get a lot of joy.
