Speaking on the Die for Three Points Podcast, Neil Warnock has been discussing Liverpool’s slow start to the season and how the media have perceived the Reds this term.
The Merseyside club have started this season more slowly than usual, but there have been some positives too.
They recorded a record 9-0 win earlier this season, they’ve beaten Manchester City and they’re through their Champions League group.
However, Warnock says that the media are honing in on the negatives at the moment because it is Liverpool Football club, and the former Sheffield United boss has given his own point of view, stating that he believes that there isn’t too much wrong at Anfield at the moment.

Warnock hits back
The experienced manager hit back at the media’s criticism of Liverpool.
“I just think because it’s Liverpool and everyone expected them to be level with Manchester City at this stage and everyone expected them to be level with City at this stage, it’s so difficult that. All of the media at the moment, because it’s Liverpool, let’s bash them. They’re saying it all needs changing, he’s no good, he needs new blood. I don’t think there’s a lot wrong, it’s just confidence in the players,” Warnock said.
Fine balance
Warnock is right, the media have been a bit over the top with their Liverpool coverage of late, but it’s hard to strike a balance between a pile-on and analysis.
Let’s be honest, Liverpool haven’t been good this season, even in some of the games they’ve won they’ve gotten away with things – the matches against Newcastle and Manchester City standout as examples, so there is bound to be criticism.
At the end of the day, this is a game of opinions, and if some within the media believe that widespread changes are needed at Liverpool, they’re well within their rights to voice that point of view.
