Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrice Muamba has been naming his Team of the Season so far and he’s picked Sven Botman in the heart of his defence.
The Dutch defender had a slow start to life at St James’ Park, but over the past two months he’s been one of the Magpies’ most important players.
Botman is one of the main reasons why the Magpies have the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League, and Muamba believes that the sky is the limit for this young man.
Indeed the former Bolton Wanderers midfielder says that Botman has all of the attributes necessary to be the very best defender in the world.
Botman could be the best
Muamba made a big claim about Botman.
“Sven Botman. Sven at Newcastle United. This guy is different class. He has all of the attributes to be the best defender in the world. He can defend one vs one, he’s strong, he can organise a team. Him and Dan Burn have this great partnership at the back there. Great from set-pieces, he’s a leader and he’s young as well. A different class defender, he’s Dutch so he knows how to play the game properly,” Muamba said.
Why not?
Muamba says that Botman can be the best defender in the world, and we’re inclined to believe him.
He certainly has the physical and technical attributes to be a world-class defender, and at the age of 22, he’s surely only going to improve.
Along with William Saliba, you have to say that Botman is already the best centre-half in the world in his age bracket, and if he continues to progress in this way, it may not be long before he’s considered the best on the planet.
Newcastle are only heading in one direction, and if Botman remains a key player for the Magpies he will certainly be considered one of the top players on the planet.
