Michael Owen thinks Liverpool beating Manchester City at Anfield will provide a ‘massive’ boost to the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea.
The former England striker thinks the London trio will now feel Manchester City won’t be running away with the title after their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign was ended with a Mohamed Salah counter-attack goal.
It’s not Pep Guardiola’s side who are actually sitting top, but his former assistant Mikel Arteta is four clear, after Arsenal beat Leeds on Sunday, with Spurs in third level on points (23) with Man City and Chelsea on 19 points in fourth.

Usually, it’s Man City or Liverpool who are setting the pace, but north London is firing at the moment and those two clubs could cause some serious problems this season.
With Antonio Conte at the helm at Hotspur Way, Spurs fans will be hoping he can use his trophy-laden days of the past to get them over the line, whilst the Gunners have made the best start to a season in their history.
All of this is still early days, but Owen thinks Liverpool’s win won’t only matter to them, but those challenging near the top also, as he told Premier League Productions (16/10/22 at 6:30 pm).
“That is going to do so much for Liverpool, their confidence, okay they have had a couple of big results this season, but they have just stuttered, but that’s a massive result,” said Owen.
“It’s a massive result for the Premier League as well. In terms of all the top teams in there, everyone will be looking at Man City and thinking ‘how many points are they going to win it by?’.
“All of a sudden, Arsenal will be rejoicing, Tottenham and Chelsea. They will all be thinking ‘right, they are beatable. There is a chance in this league’. And Liverpool will be bouncing after that.”

ARE LIVERPOOL IN THE TITLE RACE?
Before a ball was kicked, Klopp was seemingly ruling out his side to challenge for the Premier League title.
It wasn’t a surprise given his team’s start, but it could be mind games from the German and simply trying to take the pressure off his side.
But, after nine games for Klopp’s men, they are 14 points behind leaders Arsenal, with a game in hand and ten behind second-placed Manchester City.
This week Liverpool face West Ham United and Nottingham Forest, so it can get even better for those on Merseyside by the time the week is over.
