Speaking on the Robbie Fowler Podcast, John Barnes has questioned the individual ability of both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, claiming that you can now see Salah’s flaw at Liverpool.

The ex-England international claimed that we are now seeing that Salah isn’t a clinical finisher due to the missing players in the team.

“Individually, they couldn’t go to Real Madrid, Man City Barcelona and do what they do,” Barnes said.

“Salah scores so many goals, and so does Mane because of the way we play, so they miss a lot of chances as well. They’re not a Lewandowski, not a Harry Kane, not a Ronaldo, so now all of a sudden when one piece of the jigsaw isn’t there, you can see, Salah will still score goals, but he’s not a clinical finisher, but because of way we play suits him, he scores loads of goals.”

Salah hasn’t been scoring bucket loads in recent weeks, but to say he isn’t a clinical finisher is a bit of a stretch.

Let’s not forget, this is the man who holds the record for the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season, he’s a two-time Golden Boot winner and he’s leading the scoring charts again this season.

It doesn’t really get more clinical than that, does it?

Yes, he misses chances, but all strikers do every now and then, but he’s more than reliable in front of goal.

Barnes knows what he’s talking about when it comes to these things, so we’re not going to completely discredit his view, and he’s right that Liverpool’s style of play does help Salah and Mane, but he’s doing them both a massive disservice by saying they’re not clinical.
