Kevin Campbell has claimed that he thinks Arsenal duo Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah will be ‘gone’ from the club, alongside, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The former striker told the Highbury Squad Podcast that, as result, it means Arsenal will need ‘two strikers’ in the summer.
Both Lacazette and Nketiah’s contracts in north London will expire in the summer and Campbell clearly feels they won’t sign on the dotted line.
Even though Lacazette is donning the Arsenal captain’s armband, albeit on a temporary basis, the signs aren’t looking promising.
The Frenchman replaced Aubameyang in that role after he was stripped by Mikel Arteta and he hasn’t played for the club since.
Nonetheless, Campbell shared his thoughts on the matter and how Arsenal will need reshaping in the attacking third.
“I think we need two strikers,” said Campbell. “I really think we need two because Aubameyang, Lacazette and Eddie.
“I think they are all going to be gone. Balogun is going to go on-loan, so he is learning, so I think we are going to need two strikers.”
From all of these players, perhaps Lacazette is most likely to stay because he is starting on a regular basis and he is currently the captain.
It could be argued that if he does stay put then Arteta might just make him the leader of the dressing room for the long term.
But, for both Nketiah and Lacazette, it needs to be remembered that whilst their contracts are running out, it doesn’t mean that the grass is greener on the other side.
For Aubameyang, it doesn’t seem as though that situation will resolve itself anytime soon and he probably won’t play for the club again.
