Pundit Darren Bent has said that as brilliant as Erling Haaland is, it would be outrageous to claim that he is already better than Thierry Henry.
This debate seemingly stemmed from the £51.2 million (Eurosport) man breaking Mohamed Salah’s goal record for a single Premier League season in his debut campaign against Arsenal.
While Darren Bent acknowledged that Erling Haaland is different gravy, he refused to accept that he could be compared to Thierry Henry.
Darren Bent sides with Thierry Henry over Erling Haaland in debate
The Manchester City striker is one of one and even at such a young age, it would be fair to claim that he is already one of the best goalscorers the game has ever seen.
To step into the toughest league in the world and to annihilate records at the rate that he has deserves endless applause.
However, when presenter Andy Goldstein claimed that Erling Haaland was better than Thierry Henry in terms of his natural talent and perhaps even generally, Darren Bent was not pleased.

“You’d be able to answer that in terms of the Premier League next year. Second season is always the one”, he said on talkSPORT.
“Not yet. I’d still put…[Alan] Shearer’s got 260.”
When quizzed about whether he would rather have the Arsenal icon or the Manchester City sensation in his side, Bent responded saying, “Henry. Henry, all day, every day. He’s not better than Henry.”
“He’s not a better player than Henry yet, come on. People forget how good Henry was! Haaland’s unstoppable.”
Darren Bent concluded on the Erling Haaland versus Thierry Henry debate by saying, “I get that [he responded to Henry never reaching a goal tally like Haaland’s]. 20 assists, both [goals and assists]. It’s about both. He did both, that’s my point.”
HITC View: Haaland is generational but this is a stretch
Considering just how much Haaland has been unjustly criticised for City’s flaws this season, it is only right than an outpouring of praise comes his way for what has been a legendary campaign.
However, even putting Premier League legacies aside, it would be unfair to claim that Erling Haaland, branded as ‘unreal’ by Fabrizio Romano is already better than Thierry Henry, as Darren Bent said.
The Frenchman has a claim for being the greatest striker of all time and the longevity and well-roundedness of his game has not been matched by any of the No.9’s of the previous generation as well.
Could Haaland surpass Henry? Absolutely. Has he yet? Of course not.
