New Celtic signing Alistair Johnston has hinted on Instagram that Victor Wanyama could follow him from MLS side Montreal Impact to Celtic – with the holding midfielder set to become a free agent at the end of the month.

Johnston, 24, has joined Celtic from Montreal in a £3million deal after shining in the MLS for the Canadian outfit. Then, at the World Cup in Qatar with his country, starting all three games in the group stages. Canada failed to qualify.

It is widely believed that Johnston comes in at Celtic as a replacement for Croatia international Josip Juranovic. The defender is being linked with a move to West Ham, Manchester United, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad.

Of course, Johnston played alongside Kenya skipper Wanyama at Montreal. A player that clocked up 91 appearances for Celtic in two years, between 2011 and 2013 before heading south to Southampton – like many other Celtic stars.

Johnston is on holiday in Italy and took to Instagram to joke that his holiday location was in fact, not “Paradise”. Clearly, the Canada right-back is well-accustomed to social media and is already garnering plenty of love from fans.

Wanyama is well-liked at Celtic following his two years at the club. He won the Premiership in both seasons, as well as a League Cup during Neil Lennon’s first era as manager. He has since gone on to play for Southampton and Spurs.

Wanyama has just ended his third season with Johnston at Montreal, clocking up 90 appearances in that time. But, his deal ends on December 31 and all signs suggest that he will become a free agent. The midfielder is still only 31.

Wanyama commented on Johnston’s Instagram, saying “Paradise is where you will be playing”. Johnston, clearly looking to tease Wanyama but also, potentially hinting at a return to Celtic, said it is where “we will be playing”.
