Jamie Carragher has said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:44pm, October 3, 2021) that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson should have kept out Phil Foden’s shot on goal at Anfield.
What’s the story?
Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw with Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League last night.
England international attacking midfielder Foden scored City’s first goal.
It came in the 69th minute.
Foden found the back of the net with a wonderful effort from close range.
Jamie Carragher’s verdict
Former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Carragher believes that Reds goalkeeper Alisson should have kept out Foden’s effort.
Carragher said: “When Phil Foden shoots, I know he is a great player, you would almost be thinking that he would be crossing from there.
“I just think the goalkeeper lost his bearings because it actually just got a yard past the near post.”

Should Alisson have saved it?
Alisson – who cost Liverpool £67 million in transfer fees in the summer of 2018, as reported by Sky Sports at the time – is a world-class goalkeeper, and we know the kind of saves he can make.
Now, the Brazil international goalkeeper will feel a bit disappointed that he could not keep out Foden’s effort.
However, the City star took it well and with power, and we cannot really fault Alisson.
It was not a mistake at all from the Liverpool goalkeeper.
It is a credit to Foden that he could score from that tight angle.
