The Brazilian has been an outstanding success since joining Liverpool.
Liverpool stopper Alisson Becker sat down for an exclusive interview with football magazine Four Four Two, and shared four key reasons why he chose a switch to Anfield rather than Chelsea.
The Reds signed the Brazilian from Roma in the summer, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £67 million – a then world record fee for a goalkeeper, and he has gone on to firmly establish himself as a vital player for Jürgen Klopp’s side.
Coincidentally, Chelsea went on to smash that record, when they signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Atletico Bilbao for around £71 million.
Alisson’s arrival at Liverpool has played a major part in Klopp’s side’s rise to the top of the Premier League table, and they are being heavily tipped to win their first top flight title since 1990.
Klopp must be very grateful to have the 26-year-old, but things could have been so different had he chosen a switch to Stamford Bridge instead of Anfield.
Alisson spoke exclusively to Four Four Two magazine, and shared the four reasons why he joined Liverpool:
“I chose Liverpool for the same reasons I went to Roma when I first left Brazil – I thought this would be the best move for my career. Chelsea were changing their manager and not playing in the Champions League. I’ve also always admired Liverpool’s history. This is a club with five European Cups in their trophy cabinet. I really wanted to be part of that history.”
Liverpool have some vitally important games coming up over the next few months both domestically and on the continent, and if they are to have any chance whatsoever of ending the season with a trophy, Alisson will have to be on his very best form between now and May.
