Dejan Lovren played alongside Virgil van Dijk for Liverpool over the weekend, with Joel Matip on the sidelines with an injury.

Alisson Becker has made it clear that Liverpool are ‘not weaker’ without Joel Matip, as he also stated that he gets ‘annoyed’ when his team concede ‘stupid’ goals.

A big week awaits Liverpool because on Tuesday night they are in Champions League action against Genk before the big showdown against Manchester City at the weekend.

Since Alisson returned from injury against Manchester United last month, Liverpool are yet to keep a clean sheet – Jurgen Klopp’s men last kept the ball out of the back of the net in September against Sheffield United.

Ahead of a busy week for Liverpool, Alisson didn’t pull any punches as he shared some brutally honest views on the defensive side of the Reds game.

“We’re not a weaker side when he’s [Matip] not playing but, yes, we miss him,” Alisson told LFC’s official website. “He is a very good player, a player who helped us a lot last season, winning the Champions League.

On lack of clean sheets: “It always annoys me when we concede stupid goals. When we concede in a stupid way, this annoys me and it annoys my teammates also because when we enter the pitch we always have a common goal – win the game and keep a clean sheet.”

Liverpool will be backing themselves to secure all three points and keep a clean sheet against Genk on Tuesday night, but like any other Champions League game, it’s going to be tough.

But it’s Sunday’s game that the Reds supporters will have most of their eye on because if they keep a clean sheet in that then they can maintain their six-point lead at the top of the table.

Whilst the European Champions will want all three points, given the fact that it’s City who need the win the most, a point and a clean sheet would not be a bad nights work.
