Alisher Usmanov could be lining up a move to join the Everton board.
Alisher Usmanov has told Bloomberg that he is considering investing in Everton given his relationship with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.
Everton have been splashing the cash in recent years, having received major investment from Moshiri back in 2016, with the spending starting that summer.
During Moshiri’s stint at Goodison Park, money has been splashed on the likes of Jordan Pickford, Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne, Ashley Williams, Michael Keane, Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye, Ademola Lookman, Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Davy Klaassen, Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun.
It’s fair to say that the investment hasn’t exactly led to greater success, and Moshiri has made another managerial change this summer by appointing Marco Silva, following the moves of Roberto Martinez to Ronald Koeman to Sam Allardyce.
Moshiri invested in Everton after selling his shares in Arsenal to business partner Alisher Usmanov, and many have predicted that Usmanov will end up at Goodison Park given Stan Kroenke’s pursuit of full control at Arsenal.
Those rumours heightened last week when Usmanov sold his shares to Kroenke, freeing him up for a move to Everton, with The Sun reporting that Usmanov was being lined up to reunite with Moshiri.
Now, Usmanov has told Bloomberg that he would be happy to help Moshiri at Everton if he so wanted, confirming his interest in a Goodison Park reunion.
“We are friends with Farhad Moshiri,” said Usmanov. “If he needs the support, I am happy to help,” he added.
The Russian’s possible involvement and investment would give manager Silva a boost ahead of the January transfer window, giving him even more cash to spend on new signings as Everton look to move forward.
