The Hamilton star made an impression when he came up against Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side this season.
Hamilton Academical’s Ali Crawford
Ali Crawford’s Hamilton teammate Darian MacKinnon has been so full of praise for the midfielder’s ability that he has told The Scottish Sun that he was convinced Rangers would make a move for him in the summer.
Crawford has enjoyed a sensational start to the season, scoring six goals in all competitions for the Accies. However, it was at Ibrox on the opening day of the league campaign that the midfielder sent a real statement to the rest of the Scottish Premiership.

The 25-year-old opened the scoring against Mark Warburton’s side with a brilliant finish that left Wes Foderingham with no chance. And while many Gers supporters would have been taken aback by the performance, MacKinnon was not surprised to see Crawford shine, and suggested that while he fully expected him to be involved in that game, he was certain that he would not have been playing for the away side.
“He doesn’t say too much, but he is never slow to let you know when he’s not happy. I was actually thinking he’d go to Rangers in the summer. That was the scenario I was convinced about,” he told The Scottish Sun.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
“I thought he would’ve been the real deal for them. When you’re playing for a team that dominates possession, I thought he would’ve been ideal playing in that wee hole.”
Warburton’s best signings during his tenure have arguably been the players that have arrived with something to prove, rather than those who have already established themselves elsewhere.

And with Crawford yet to be given that chance by a top team, and beginning to reach an age where the chances of that kind of move begin to diminish, he would have undoubtedly felt that he would have had something to prove if the Gers had come calling during the recent window.
And MacKinnon clearly feels that if the Light Blues had swooped in, they would have bagged themselves a very special talent.
