The Ibrox striker is a much more reliable presence for Rangers this season.
The 23-year-old has been in sparkling form this season, scoring a magnificent 20 goals in all competitions.
He’s pushing Rangers towards silverware in the League Cup and has Gerrard’s side challenging Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership too.
One of the big improvements in the Colombian’s game has been his discipline, with the player falling foul of referees much less this term compared to 2018/19.
No longer considered something of a liability, the striker has hailed Gerrard’s influence in helping him sort the issue.
As quoted by Antena 2, via The Scottish Sun, he said: “As a player, he also has his mistakes, I have learned a lot and Gerrard has advised me a lot.
“The referees always complicated me in that aspect (the cards) but I learned from that, I am doing things better and well in that sense.
“With him, I have a lot of confidence and he puts me to play as defined nine.”
How big has the difference been?
Morelos’ disciplinary record last season was shockingly bad. In total, he racked up a massive 18 yellow cards and five red cards in 48 appearances.
He was sent off in matches against Aberdeen and Celtic, who represent Rangers’ biggest tests of the domestic season.
As shown by Transfermarkt, he missed eight matches due to suspension, some of which were very important.
Perhaps the most notable was a League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen, in which Umar Sadiq was forced to play, with Rangers eventually dumped out.
When you contrast that with Morelos’ contribution to the recent semi-final win against Hearts, it’s clear how much they missed him at critical points last year.
He may have picked up five yellow cards already this season but that’s a clear improvement, especially when you consider he has yet to be sent off.
Whatever measures Gerrard has taken have worked.
