HJK Helsinki striker Alfredo Morelos arrived in Scotland today, and has told STV that he is excited to be joining Rangers as a deal moves ever closer.

Rangers have already tied up five summer signings by bringing in Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Dalcio and Daniel Candeias, but manager Pedro Caixinha is still looking for more.

Whilst Mexican internationals Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera are set to join the club, Caixinha has also pushed for the signature of HJK Helsinki striker Alfredo Morelos – and appears to have got his man.

Morelos, 20, has hit 40 goals in 54 games for Finnish side HJK since joining from Independiente Medellin in 2016, proving to be something of a goal machine in Finland.

The Colombian hitman caught the eye of Rangers coach Jonatan Johansson, and his recommendation led the Gers to pursue a deal, which is now edging closer to completion.

STV note that Morelos arrived in Scotland earlier today in order to finalise terms and undergo a medical with Rangers, though they will need a work permit for the striker before the deal can be rubber-stamped.

Morelos spoke to STV about his imminent move, claiming that it will be a ‘wonderful experience’ with Rangers, and thanked fans for their support on social media amid the recent speculation.

Morelos added that he wants to win titles with Rangers, and he is looking forward to working with Caixinha given that they will find communication easy, whilst he also hopes to eventually earn a call-up to the Colombian national team whilst playing for Rangers.

“It’s going to be a wonderful experience to be here at Rangers so I’m really happy about it and also about fans welcoming me, sending me lots of support. I’m very happy to be here and to show everyone my scoring skills,” said Morelos. “I’ve been doing things right in the last few months and I come here to Rangers to contribute to the team, to the club and to win some titles which is really important for Rangers.”

“I want to continue what I was doing for HJK Helsinki, scoring goals and to contribute to the team which is the most important thing. I’d like to send a special hug to all our supporters. I’ll see you soon.” I know Rangers from the internet, their supporters, they’re wonderful. Rangers are a big team here in Scotland. The Old Firm is just incredible, a different game with lots of emotions so I just hope to make things right as I’ve been doing lately and I hope the manager can count on me so I can play every game.”

“What I know (about Pedro) is that he was in Mexico so I’ll be quite easy for me to work with him, to speak with him as I know he speaks Spanish as well as other mates in Rangers so that’ll make it easier for me to adapt quickly to the team. I’m very young, I’m 20 years old so I just hope I can continue making progress here, scoring lots of goals, so I can be selected for my national team and play with Falcao, with James (Rodriguez), and with so many other important players,” he added.
