Alfredo Morelos recently suggested that Glasgow Rangers teammate Carlos Pena is the best player at Ibrox.

When Alfredo Morelos suggested ahead of Rangers’ clash with St Johnstone earlier this week that Carlos Pena was the best player he has shared a team with – as reported by The Scottish Sun – there may well have been a number of Gers fans who questioned the forward’s judgement.
Pena may have gone into the game with the Saints with two goals in his previous five games, but his form had been somewhat erratic and his performance in the final game before the international break – the 4-1 win over Hamilton – did not exactly suggest that he was going to prove an inspired signing.

However, after the Gers’ clash with St Johnstone on Friday night, it is surely fair to say that Morelos’ comments regarding his high opinion of the Mexican look nowhere near as questionable.
Pena was exceptional for the Light Blues, scoring the opening two goals. The first came as he peeled away from his marker before meeting James Tavernier’s brilliant cross with a well-taken half-volley into the roof of the net.

And it was the same two players who combined for Rangers’ second, as once again, a Tavernier cross was met by Pena – who had got himself a yard of space again – who headed home from close range to double the lead.
Pena still has a lot of work to do before he proves himself to be the best player in the Rangers squad, but the 3-0 win certainly provided the clearest indication yet that he can live up to Morelos’ billing. He now needs to prove that his first brace for the Gers will not be a rare highlight during his time at Ibrox.
