Alfred Finnbogason has confirmed the Magpies made a loan offer in the last transfer window.
The SC Heerenveen striker has been in sensational goalscoring form in the Dutch Eredivisie – having netted 24 league goals in his debut season and scored 11 times in seven matches this year.
The 24-year-old is reportedly being watched by the likes of Cardiff City, Queens Park Rangers and Fulham.
However, the Icelandic frontman has revealed that he is only aware of a loan offer from Newcastle – and would definitely consider a move to Tyneside in January.
He told Icelandic football website 433.is: “I heard they [Newcastle] made a loan bid for me at the end of the transfer window but it was not an option for me to go on loan.
“If they make another offer I will consider it.”
Finnbogason then went on to reiterate his interest in joining Newcastle: “St James´s Park is a great stadium and Newcastle are a great club in the English Premier league”.
Newcastle scouts have reportedly been watching the Iceland international, and club officials believe they can sign the youngster for a fee in the region of £5 million.
