Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson has told Sky Sports that Harry Kane is “one of the best players in the world” ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s visit to the Liberty Stadium.

Kane heads to South Wales on the back of setting a new Premier League high for goals in a calendar year with 39, surpassing the total of 36 scored by Alan Shearer back in 1995.

The Spurs striker is chasing another Premier League record against Swansea, looking to become the first player to score three successive hat-tricks after trebles against Burnley and Southampton.

The Swans are one of the few teams to have kept 24-year-old quiet when they held Spurs to a 0-0 draw at Wembley in September, and Mawson believes the key to stopping Kane is cutting off his supply.

“I think the supply to him,” Mawson told Sky Sports. “He’s one of the best strikers in the world, one of the best players in the world at the moment. For the last few seasons now he has been brilliant.

“If you can’t test yourself up against the best players, who do you want to test yourself up against? You’ve got to push yourself and believe you can stop them. We managed to do it at the beginning of the season – we prevented him from scoring – so there is no reason why we can’t do it again.”

Right-back Kieran Trippier and playmaker Christian Eriksen are Kane’s most common supply lines, although the England international has shown that he can create goals for himself.

Swansea have not beaten Tottenham in 13 league matches since returning to the top flight, but should be full of confidence after a maiden win under new manager Carlos Carvalhal at Watford.
