Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has admitted that he struggles to understand Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones.

Alexis Mac Allister is still adjusting to the Scouse accent having admitted difficulties listening to a couple of Liverpool teammates.

Mac Allister has been speaking to Goal as he continues to settle in following his summer move to Anfield.

The midfielder enjoyed a stunning campaign, winning the World Cup with Argentina whilst continuing to shine for Brighton and Hove Albion.

Mac Allister played so well that Liverpool swooped in, securing a £35million deal during the summer transfer window.

Alexis Mac Allister comments on Liverpool teammates

Mac Allister has now commented on early life at Liverpool – and on the Scouse accent.

Liverpudlians themselves may well accept that their accent can be a little difficult for everybody to understand.

Mac Allister is now finding that; we can only imagine what the Scouse accent sounds like to players who aren’t predominantly English speakers!

The midfielder told Goal that he can’t even understand the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold or Curtis Jones at times, but believes he will get used to it in time.

“No, still no,” said Mac Allister when asked if he has learned any Scouse. “I think I need to improve my Scouse! Sometimes I cannot even understand Trent or Curtis, but I will get there,” he added.

Mac Allister showing promising signs at Liverpool

Mac Allister may still be finding his feet – and training his ears – but he is showing promising signs on the pitch.

The 24-year-old has shown his work rate and ability on the ball whilst even showing that he can play as a holding midfielder if needed.

Mac Allister would probably admit himself that his performance in the first half against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend wasn’t good enough.

Having been on international duty with Argentina though, a slightly leggy performance was expected and Jurgen Klopp wasn’t afraid to hook him at half-time.

That’s the low point of Mac Allister’s time at Liverpool so far, with the majority of his time going very well as he forms a new-look Liverpool midfield.
