Highly rated 20-year-old French attacker Alexis Claude-Maurice has been attracting interest from England but who should he join in the summer?

According to a report from The Mirror, Arsenal have joined the race with newly promoted Norwich City to sign Lorient’s young attacker Alexis Claude-Maurice in the summer.

The report says that Norwich were ready to sanction a £9 million bid for the Frenchman but they now face competition from the Gunners and Ligue 1 side Lille for his signature.

Claude-Maurice has been in fine form for the Ligue 2 outfit having scored 14 goals and provided a further four assists in 34 games this season. The youngster has mainly played on the left-wing but he has been used as a number 10 and even as a centre-forward on occasion.

The Frenchman has shown real promise with his performances this campaign and a move to the Premier League will be the perfect step to take for his development. However, a move to Arsenal could just prove to be too big of a leap for him from the Ligue 2 despite how well his former teammate Matteo Guendouzi has done for the Gunners.

With Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Guendouzi regulars in Arsenal’s midfield and with the likes of Emile Smith-Rowe and Reiss Nelson coming back from their loan spells, Claude-Maurice’s chances of game time will be minimal.

The youngster should instead prioritise a move to Norwich City where the competition for places will be considerably lower. Claude-Maurice can be a brilliant backup to the likes of Marco Stiepermann and Onel Hernandez and under Daniel Farke, he can expect more chances to fulfil his potential in the coming years.
