Alexandre Lacazette has suggested that Ben White needs an ‘edge’ to his game to be a future Arsenal captain, as he told the club’s official website.
The stand-in skipper added that White’s performances out on the pitch showcase that he can become a ‘good leader’.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stripped of the role and now out of the door, who will be the long-term skipper is up for grabs.
Lacazette currently holds that role, but he is out-of-contract at the Emirates in the summer.
That then makes Mikel Arteta’s life difficult in picking a permanent leader, especially if Lacazette isn’t going to be here next term.
The Frenchman dropped a number of names for that role, including White’s and shared what qualities he does or doesn’t have for that role.
“Ben White as well, he’s more quiet maybe,” said Lacazette.
“But by the way he plays he can be a good leader and maybe with an edge can build up.”

If Lacazette signs a contract extension at the Emirates, then it’s probably obvious that he will take up the armband full-time.
But the signs suggest that won’t happen because, with only months remaining, nothing seems to be moving regarding the player signing a new deal.
The Gunners have handed long-term deals or expensive contracts to far too many ageing players and it has come back to bite them on the back.
With Lacazette, who turns 31 in May, there is probably the fear that he will go down the same road.
