Speaking to Arsenal’s official club website, Alexandre Lacazette has been chatting about English football fans and Leeds United.

Lacazette has been in England for five years now, but this season he experienced a packed-out Elland Road for the very first time in his career.

The Frenchman was blown away by the support of the Leeds fanbase, claiming that he loves that type of atmosphere and seeing supporters get behind their team even when things aren’t going too well.

What’s Lacazette said about Leeds fans?

Lacazette was full of praise for Leeds’ support, while he also had similarly good things to say about his own fans at Arsenal.

“I love the atmosphere in English games, because you know the fans will be loud until the end, whatever the score is,” Lacazette said.

“Look at the Leeds game for example. They supported their team and sang until the end. That’s similar in France as well though. Mostly they get behind their team even if they are down, and that’s the football I like.

“I think all the players like that, and need it as well, because of course there are some games when you are not at your best and that’s when you need the energy of the crowd. You need your fans with you to keep pushing you. There have been lots of games when teams have come back from two or three goals down, and that’s because of the fans.

“I can see that with Arsenal as well. The Emirates is full again after the lockdown, and you can see the results are better for us. That’s because the fans are pushing us, staying with us, and there have been games when we have scored because of the pressure of the fans.”

Perfect example

Lacazette has only played in front of Leeds fans once, but he got the perfect example of what the Elland Road faithful are all about.

There are no two ways about it, Arsenal battered an injury-ravaged Leeds back in December, but that didn’t stop the United fanbase from being as vocal as ever.

There aren’t many teams who would do that, but as Lacazette says, Leeds’ fanbase are uniquely brilliant.
