Darren Bent has said on talkSPORT (5:56pm, October 10, 2021) that some Arsenal fans would sell striker Alexandre Lacazette for £40 million.
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker made the comments while discussing which players Newcastle United could target after their takeover.
The Arsenal-supporting talkSPORT pundit believes that some Arsenal fans would happily sell France international striker Lacazette if they get £40 million for him now.
Bent said: “I think some Arsenal fans would be like, ‘Oh, you know what, £40m for Lacazette, I would probably take that’.”
Alexandre Lacazette exit inevitable?
Lacazette is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season, and no new deal is in place at the moment.
The Arsenal no.9 – described as “phenomenal” by manager Mikel Arteta in Football.London last month – is struggling for playing time at the moment, and it is hard to see him stay at the Emirates Stadium beyond the summer of 2022.
The former Lyon star has made only two substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
Lacazette has scored two goals and provided one assist in two Carabao Cup ties.
Now, if anyone offers £40 million for the striker in the January transfer window, then it is very likely that Arsenal will accept it.
However, we have to ask whether any club will be ready to pay £40 million for a 30-year-old striker who will become a free agent in the summer of 2022.
We think that no club will come even close to paying that sort of money.
