Rangers failed to bring Alexander Kacaniklic to Ibrox in January.

Rangers have been revamping their wide options in 2019, with Steven Gerrard’s options looking almost unrecognisable from last season.
Jordan Jones, Brandon Barker, Jake Hastie and Sheyi Ojo have all arrived, whilst Eros Grezda is unwanted, Daniel Candeias has gone, Glenn Middleton may head out on loan and Ryan Kent isn’t returning from Liverpool.
Gerrard will be hoping that his new wingers can drive Rangers closer to Celtic, but he may be wishing one of his January targets had made the move to Ibrox.
Fotboll Direkt in Sweden reported back in March that Rangers were really keen to sign Alexander Kacaniklic, and even went as far as inviting the winger to Glasgow for talks.
The Swede, 27, was with Gerrard at Liverpool but still rejected a reunion at Rangers, and instead went home to Sweden by signing for Hammarby following the termination of his Nantes contract.
Kacaniklic penned a three-year deal with Hammarby earlier this year in order to get his career back on track, and it’s fair to say that it’s working for him so far.

The left-footed wide man is in blistering form right now, and in his last five games for Hammarby, he’s racked up a stunning five goals and four assists.
After a patchy start to life back in his homeland, Kacaniklic is now getting back to his best, and may leave Gerrard wishing he’d got that deal over the line.
With the winger dominating Swedish football, it isn’t out of all realms of possibility that he makes a big move on in the near future – and with Ojo only on loan, Rangers may be wise to consider a new move for Kacaniklic in the future, hoping it’s second time lucky after seeing his recent displays.
