Alexander Isak has now opened up on his relationship with Callum Wilson and playing with the striker for Newcastle United. Eddie Howe signed the attacker as competition in August.
The Toon saw Wilson emerge as their absolute first choice at centre-forward following his arrival in September 2020. But while the 31-year-old regularly displayed his importance, he also suffered from regular injuries. So, Howe sought to sign Isak to add depth to his attack.
Newcastle bet big on Isak adding another spark to Howe’s team having spent a club-record £63m to sign him from Real Sociedad. But the 23-year-old only made his ninth appearance and sixth start in a Premier League game yet as the Magpies beat Wolves 2-1 last Saturday.

Isak scored the opening goal before Miguel Almiron later restored Newcastle’s lead against Wolves. It was the Sweden international’s fourth in the English top-flight so far. The 37-cap forward also scored twice before suffering a thigh injury back in September and once after.
Wilson has scored seven goals through the £20m former AFC Bournemouth frontman’s 19 Premier League appearances so far this season. But he has also suffered from a hamstring injury this term. While a calf injury had sidelined Wilson for four months at the start of 2022.

Alexander Isak now opens up on his relationship with Callum Wilson at Newcastle
Isak and Wilson both missing fixtures this season has meant Newcastle’s strikers have only played 63 minutes together yet. Howe fielded the forwards for 19 minutes against Fulham in the Premier League and for another 44 against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final.
Newcastle beat Fulham 1-0 on January 15 with Wilson assisting Isak for the only goal in the 89th minute. Howe had introduced Isak as a 71st minute substitute with Wilson starting at home to the Cottagers. Isak also joined Wilson at half-time during in the Carabao Cup final.

Yet despite only featuring together twice to date, Isak believes he and Wilson are building a solid relationship on and off the pitch at Newcastle. The attacker also admires what his strike partner has shown he provides Howe since joining Wilson on Tyneside last summer.
“We have a pretty good relationship and the few times we have played together, we have had a good connection,” Isak said, via quotes by The Northern Echo. “He is a great player.”
