Alexander Isak has told Newcastle United’s website that the club’s fans were a big part of the Sweden striker deciding to move to Tyneside. Newcastle have completed the signing of Isak in a deal reportedly worth £59million.
Isak, 22, joins Newcastle in a deal that will see Newcastle pay an initial fee of £55million to Real Sociedad. The remaining £4million will be paid in add-ons, while there is also a sell-on clause included in the club-record move.
The Sweden international was highly sought-after this summer. It comes after scoring 44 goals in three seasons with the La Liga club, as well as adding eight assists. A striker that has already shown huge pedigree at just 22.
The Toon have been after another striker for some time – missing out on Hugo Ekitike, who has joined PSG. Isak will rival Callum Wilson and Chris Wood for a place in the Newcastle side. Wilson is currently out with an injury.
Asked about his move to Newcastle, Isak told the club’s website: “I’m delighted to have it done. It was a big, big decision for me but it is a decision I am really happy with.
“It is a great, historical club that I think anyone would like to play for, with amazing fans. They were a big part of why I came here – and also the club’s project, which is one that I really believe in.”

It is a real statement of intent for Isak. While many will look at the fee paid for Isak – £59million in total – is a lot for a striker that scored just six goals last season, it is a sign that Newcastle’s owners are planning for the future.
Like the signings of Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman, it gives Newcastle a real exciting look for the future. Improving the side right now, the Toon will only continue to grow by adding these types of players to their ranks.
Those three players now give Newcastle a central core. A core that are the face of the Newcastle project under the club’s new owners. Isak will hope to be available for Sunday’s clash against Wolves this weekend.
