Alexander Isak has told Mundo Deportivo that while he is happy at La Liga side Real Sociedad, “you never know” what can happen in the future. Isak was the subject of a reported £58million bid from Arsenal in January.
Isak, 22, was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in January. Arsenal need a striker – with Flo Balogun moving to Middlesbrough and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang completing a last-minute move to Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in June and look unlikely to renew their deals. It could leave Arsenal with just Balogun, when he returns from his loan at Championship side Boro.
So, Arsenal could do with a striker and Isak fits the bill. Mundo Deportivo reported on deadline day that Arsenal had a bid of £58million rejected – with Sociedad requesting a fee of £75million. Now, Isak has commented.
“I am not talking about other clubs. I am a Real player, I work here and this is my club. You can never be sure of anything. As I always say, you never know what can happen in football, but in the end I’m happy,” Isak said.
Isak on Arsenal: Gunners will surely make summer move for Swede
Given the Gunners were only £17million below Sociedad’s asking price for the striker in January, it is surely expected that now Aubameyang’s wages are off the bill – that they will make another move in the summer window.
Isak has enormous potential. While only eight goals have come his way this season, last term he netted a huge 17 goals in 44 games. Already somewhat experienced with well over 150 club games, he also has 31 Sweden caps.
It is a no-brainer for the Gunners to re-enter the market in the summer for Isak, with the striker situation set to worsen from January onwards.
