Sky reporter Rob Dorsett says that Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold looked like he said ‘it’s gone’ to the players on England’s bench as he walked off with injury last night.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Dorsett provided an update on the Liverpool player’s injury problem, after being in position at the Riverside Stadium last night.

The reporter was stationed just above the England bench, and apparently thought he saw Alexander-Arnold give some bad news to his international teammates.

He said: “It looked like he mouthed to the bench ‘it’s gone’. He was a really disconsolate figure as he trudged off underneath the tunnel directly beneath him.

“Gareth Southgate did have his arm around him, and was trying to console him, but he looked like a man who believes himself that his Euro dream is over.”

Crushing blow for club and country

If Dorsett’s words are correct that looks like bad news for Liverpool and England.

Alexander-Arnold was holding his left thigh as he walked off, and a muscle pull could take a long time to recover from.

While Liverpool’s season has finished, if it is too severe, there may be some concerns about him even making it back for the start of pre-season.

Gareth Southgate said last night that Alexander-Arnold would undergo scans on the problem in the next 48 hours to really assess the severity of it.

If Alexander-Arnold was to miss out on going to the European Championships it would be a crushing blow for the 22-year-old.

The Liverpool man fought so hard to make it into the England squad in the final weeks of the season, and it would be a cruel twist of fate if he was able to compete now.
