Trent Alexander-Arnold has claimed that the ‘fantastic’ Mo Salah has ‘nothing left to prove’ after scoring yet another winning goal for Liverpool over the weekend, as he told Premier League Productions (11/12/21 at 5:10 pm).
On Saturday, Liverpool beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Anfield, with Salah winning the penalty and then converting it past Emiliano Martinez.
That was Salah’s 14th Premier League goal in 16 games and his 21st strike of the campaign from all competitions.
Not many, if anyone, in world football can stand up to claim that they are the best footballer in the world ahead of Salah.
Not only is he producing the goods in the toughest league in the world, but he also has a remarkable seven goals from his six Champions League matches.
Alexander-Arnold works his magic on the right-hand side when Salah is running down the wing and he was in no doubt that he is the best in the world right now.
“He proved it last week,” said Alexander-Arnold. “When we needed a goal, he got the assist for Divock.
“He’s done it again this week when we have needed the goal. He has won the pen and scored the pen. Many people will agree, he is probably the best player in the world right now. He’s a fantastic player. We have seen it for years now.
“He has got nothing left to prove to anyone. He is out there breaking records every week. We come in and he’s broken another record, it’s frightening the numbers he has put up.
“The consistency is stuff that we have only seen two players do during the modern era of the game. It’s a credit to himself. A credit to the work he puts in. He is a fantastic lad and a fantastic player.”
Not only is Salah topping the scoring charts, but he is also the top creator in the Premier League with nine assists to his name.
It’s been a quite remarkable season for the Egypt international and it’s scary to think the numbers he can reach this season.
As things stand, he is on course to go well past 20 league goals and possibly reach close to 20 assists this term, if not more.
Not many players have been top-scorer and assist-maker in one season – with only four other players doing so during the Premier League era.
A certain Harry Kane, who only has one Premier League goal to his name this term, was holding both trophies aloft last season.
