Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song spoke to Toronto Raptors basketball star Pascal Siakam on Instagram about the reason he left the Emirates.
The Cameroonian international decided to leave the Gunners after an impressive season under Arsene Wenger.
Song joined Barcelona in the summer of 2012, which seemed strange at the time considering there was no way he would have started ahead of any of Xavi, Iniesta or Busquets.
The former Arsenal man finally revealed why he chose to make the move to Spain and it wasn’t to win trophies or to play alongside Lionel Messi.
As quoted by The Sun, Song said: “During my entire time at Arsenal I couldn’t even save £100,000, while people thought I must be a millionaire.”
“When Barcelona offered me a contract, and I saw how much I would earn, I didn’t think twice. I felt my wife and children should have comfortable lives once my career is over.”
“I met Barca’s sporting director, and he told me I would not get to play many games. But I didn’t give a f*** – I knew that now I would become a millionaire.”

Not many players openly admit that they switched clubs just for more money, but Song seems to have nothing to hide.
The midfielder played over 200 times for the Gunners over eight years but his footballing career has gone downhill since his move.
Song played for West Ham, Rubin Kazan and FC Sion after Barcelona. He is now a free agent after leaving the Swiss club.
