Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he is in talks with Rangers about becoming the new manager at Ibrox.

Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has told Sky Sports that Steven Gerrard has a “strong position” in talks over becoming the new permanent manager at Ibrox.
The 37-year-old confirmed himself that he was in talks with the Scottish giants ahead on BT Sport ahead of Real Madrid’s clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Graeme Murty has been relieved of his duties at Ibrox this week after suffering a 5-0 loss to Old Firm rivals Celtic, less than a fortnight after losing 4-0 to Brendan Rodgers’ side in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Rae believes Gerrard needs assurances from the Rangers board over backing ahead of the summer transfer window, but reckons the former England and Liverpool captain is in a strong position around the negotiating table.
“The winning mentality needs to be brought back here and Steven Gerrard would do that, I’m sure,” Rae said.
“He needs financial backing from the board and he’s obviously in a strong position in negotiations at the moment. So he will be looking for assurances if he is looking to take up the post here at Ibrox.”

Gerrard has no experience in managing at the senior level, but has been in charge of Liverpool’s Under-18 side this season after retiring from professional football in 2016. He has previously turned down managing MK Dons.
Rangers currently sit in third place in the Scottish Premiership and have three games to at least salvage second place, going up against Kilmarnock on Saturday before facing Aberdeen and Hearts.
