Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have signed eight players this summer – but only one is British.

Alex Rae has told The Record that Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is taking a gamble by signing so many non-British players this summer.

Portuguese manager Caixinha has brought eight players to the Ibrox club so far but Ryan Jack is the only British talent to have joined the Gers.

Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Dalcio and Daniel Canedias are Portuguese. Eduardo Herrera and Carlos Pena are Mexican, while Alfredo Morelos is Colombian.

The 46-year-old coach has previously worked with a number of his pre-season recruits, but Rae, who spent two years at Rangers, reveals that most people are asking him where “the British element” is and believes history does not favour the club in recruiting so many foreign imports.

“Most people I have spoken to have asked where the British element is to his plans,” he told The Record.

“Pedro is on record saying that this isn’t a gamble but I actually think it is a bigger gamble going the way he is.

Caixinha

“If you look historically at Scottish football then there haven’t been that many South American success stories. He will have worked with them and will be familiar with them and will know what they can bring.

“Only time will tell if it’s going to be a positive recruitment which Rangers are doing at the moment.”

Rangers could, however, add Graham Dorrans and Jamie Walker to the list of British talent, with the Scottish duo heavily linked with moves to Glasgow.
