Pedro Caixinha’s Glasgow Rangers have brought Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

Alex Rae has suggested to The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers have a problem in their attacking department.

Rangers could score just once against Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn over two legs in the Europa League qualifying first round.

Former Rangers midfielder Rae, who is now 47 years of age, believes that Pedro Caixinha’s side need to find a way to unlock defences.

The former Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers man has also stated that he hopes that Rangers are able to complete the signings of Kenny McLean and Jamie Walker in the summer transfer window.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are interested in signing 25-year-old midfielder from Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen in the summer transfer window.

The Scottish Sun has also credited the Gers with interest in 24-year-old Heart of Midlothian winger Walker this summer.

St Mirren manager Alex Rae

“I know it’s a couple of weeks away, but Rangers need to find a way of unlocking doors,” Rae told The Glasgow Evening Times.

“If you look at the games they have played so far, whether they be friendlies or the European games, they’ve been struggling to break teams down.

“They need to come up with a solution for that. I think that Pedro is on record saying exactly that in the last couple of days, that while he is really pleased with the general overall play, they have to find a cutting edge from somewhere.

“Bringing in Kenny McLean and Jamie Walker – if they can get them over the line – will give them that extra bit of firepower going forward.”

Bruno Alves celebrates

Meanwhile, Rangers defender Bruno Alves has spoken highly of fellow summer signing and centre-back Fabio Cardoso.

While 35-year-old Alves joined the Gers in the summer transfer window on a free following his departure from Italian club Cagliari at the end of last season, Cardoso, who is 23 years of age, moved to the Scottish Premiership club from Portuguese outfit Vitoria Setubal.

“I’ve been following Fabio Cardoso in Portugal and I’ve watched him training,” Alves told The Express about Cardoso.

“He is young but has great potential and is hungry to win, and I can see he wants to lead and progress his career. He has made the right choice to come here.”
